  • ACTIVE INGREDIENT: emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate

  • PRESENTATION: 30 coated tablets

INDICATION:

emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is indicated:

  • In combination with other anti-HIV drugs for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults.
  • In combination with safer sex practices in pre-exposure prophylaxis to reduce the risk of HIV-1 sexually acquired infection in adults and adolescents, aged 15 years and older and with body weight equal to or greater than 35 kg, at high risk.
  • HIV-negative men who have sex with men, who are at high risk for HIV-1 infection through sex.
  • Male-female sex partners when one partner has HIV-1 infection and the other does not.

They are indicative of high risk in men who have sex with men and in heterosexual men and women:

  • Having an HIV-positive sexual partner.
  • Recent bacterial STD (Sexually Transmissible Diseases).
  • High number of sexual partners.
  • History of unconscious or non-use of condoms.
  • Sexual work.
  • Partner(s) with unknown HIV-1 status and any of the above mentioned factors.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

Do not take emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate if you are allergic to emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate or any of its ingredients. The active ingredients in emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate are emtricitabine and tenofovir DF.

Do not take emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate if you also take any of the medicines listed below:

• emtricitabine or tenofovir. These medicines contain the same active ingredient as emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.
• Medicines containing lamivudine or tenofovir alafenamide or adefovir (HEPSERA®).

For people using emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for pre-exposure prophylaxis to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 infection:
emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate can only help to reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 before you become infected. Do not take emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate for pre-exposure prophylaxis to help reduce your risk of getting HIV-1 if:

• You already have HIV-1 infection. If you are HIV-positive, you must take other medicines along with emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate to treat HIV-1. Emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate by itself is not a complete treatment for HIV-1.
• You do not know your HIV-1 infection status. You may already be HIV-positive. You must take other HIV-1 medications with emtricitabine + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate to treat HIV-1..
